Calabasis

California Spanish Revival

These clients, members of a large family I have designed for, purchased this recently built home in the eighties. Part of a large Calabasas tract development, the building was on a generous lot that provided area for covered outdoor dining and lounge space, a granite fireplace and barbeque, a gazebo, as well as a large, sparkling pool and a charming front patio and waterfall.

This project included replacing floors, windows, and doors. The kitchen, breakfast area, all six bathrooms, master bedroom suite, living room, dining and family rooms were all updated and remodeled. We did a complete refurnishing.

We took our time to allow the family to continue to live in the home during the extensive remodel and refurnishing. We timed the background remodel and upgrades to coincide with family vacations. In addition we did only one room at a time to minimize disruption, and the project took four years!

A primary goal was lightening the formerly rather dark home. To do so, we applied Benjamin Moore Bone White for walls, Swiss Coffee for trim, and Ralph Lauren’s Montauk Driftwood, a very pale blue for ceilings. This created a sense of the ceilings being an extension of the sky.

Creamy linens, antique pine, and blue and white accents highlight the furnishings and accessories. The project was finally completed in 2018 with minimal disruption for a happy family.
